The Province’s aim with the 1.000 young persons plan is to help them to get a job, in order to fight youth unemployment. The plan is designed for youngsters who are motivated to work and physically able to do so but who, due to all sorts of problems, did not finish their education and now cannot work. To prevent a situation in which these young people become long-term unemployed and then find themselves placed outside society, the Province of Overijssel invests in work places for them. Employers who take on a young person, receive a subsidy of maximum ten thousand euros. Supervising the young person and offering him or her training possibilities are part of the deal.
With a limited risk employing people
Wecovi managing director Hans Paul Visscher says that Wecovi has participated in similar projects before, resulting in people in the company’s permanent employment even today. “Through the 1.000 young persons plan, a warehouseman will start working with us soon. On the longer term, we might well employ another youngster in our production department. This plan gives employers the possibility to limit their risk when they take on new people. That is positive for both parties, in particular in the present unsettled market. This initiative of the Province invites companies to take someone on a bit more easily.”
A solution for connecting with the job market
Hans Paul Visscher thinks that as an employer, you have a certain responsibility towards society. “Of course, you could just ignore the fact that some people cannot make the connection with the labour market but you could also work together to find a solution. I think that, in the end, that benefits us all.”
