The Clean ‘n Easy XP Microfiber Cloth on a Roll: how listening to the market led to our latest innovation

At Wecoline, we love talking about our products, but even more so about the story and the people behind them. After all, how does a new innovation come to life within our product range? The answer is simple: by listening closely to the market, pushing boundaries together with partners, and relying on strong internal collaboration. Recently, this unique triangle of cooperation resulted in the launch of the Clean ‘n Easy XP Microfiber Cloth on a Roll. A story of product development, precision, and genuine pride.

Strict protocols demand better performance

The foundation for this innovation was laid during discussions with Zovio, a major purchasing organization for hospitals. The challenge on the work floor was urgent: the single-use wipes being used at the time simply did not deliver the cleaning performance required in a medical environment.

In a hospital, hygiene is not optional—it is an absolute necessity. The existing wipes were unable to meet the strict infection-prevention protocols. Nurses, who clean beds, bedside cabinets, and patient rooms under constant pressure every day, needed a reliable and powerful alternative that would eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.

At this early stage, Product Manager Thomas was brought in to assess the broader market demand and positioning. “We initially presented our existing Clean ‘n Easy roll,” Thomas explains. “But it lacked the specific cleaning power required by the healthcare sector. We immediately recognized the opportunity. If we could solve this challenge, we would fill a major gap across the entire healthcare market.”

The Wecoline triangle in action

A good idea is only the beginning. To transform a customer need into a tangible product, Wecoline relies on the close cooperation between Product Management, Sales, and Purchasing.

Albert, with years of experience and extensive knowledge of international markets and suppliers, knew this would be a challenge. “Initially, the customer wanted everything: maximum performance and recycled materials. Our regular production partner immediately developed a recycled-material prototype, but laboratory tests revealed the truth—the cleaning performance was just not quite good enough. In healthcare, you have to be willing to make choices. Together with Sales and the customer, we clearly established the priority: hygiene performance comes above all else.”

Scientifically proven: 99.991% bacteria reduction

To achieve the desired level of bacteria reduction, a specific composition of 70% polyester and 30% polyamide using virgin (new) materials was essential. The result was a strong, tightly structured cloth with a continuous fiber construction and minimal stretch.

The instructions to the manufacturer were clear: “Test and prove the product first, only then bring it to Wecovi.” The outcome exceeded expectations. The cloth was officially tested by the independent European laboratory Weber Lloyd against the resilient E. coli bacterium in accordance with the strictest DIN standards.

The results:

  • An impressive bacteria reduction rate of 99.991%.
  • This unique achievement is officially documented under NSE test result number 03110100.

Thanks to this exceptional performance, the product earned the designation XP (Extra Performance).

Fine-tuning every detail

True craftsmanship is demonstrated in the details. During practical testing with sample products, critical feedback was received from end users. Originally, the roll was packaged in paper, but in a hospital environment this posed a risk of bacterial build-up.

Thomas explains: “We immediately coordinated internally and with the manufacturer. The Clean ‘n Easy XP Microfiber Cloth on a Roll is now supplied in a fully sealed foil package. This ensures the roll remains protected from external influences until the moment it is opened.”

An additional advantage is that the new roll fits seamlessly into existing, familiar dispenser systems. This allows us to combine maximum hygiene with the ease of use healthcare professionals rely on every day.

Pride today, innovation tomorrow

What makes this project truly remarkable is the speed at which it was completed. From the very first conversation with Zovio to a fully certified, ready-to-market product in our warehouse, the entire process took just a few months.

And development does not stop with the roll itself. Work is already underway on solutions that fit seamlessly into the daily routines of healthcare professionals. For example, a convenient flow pack containing 10 to 20 Clean ‘n Easy XP wipes for carrying in a doctor’s coat pocket. Another concept is packaging specifically designed to fit the glove holders commonly found in hospital rooms. In locations where no roll dispenser is available, these solutions provide the perfect alternative, ensuring the Clean ‘n Easy XP Microfiber Cloth is always within reach.

Albert concludes enthusiastically:

“We truly pulled together as one team. The first containers even arrived a few days ahead of schedule, allowing us to fulfill the first orders immediately. That’s the beauty of what we do: we build long-term relationships with our suppliers, we genuinely listen to our customers, and together we deliver quality that we can all be proud of.”
